गुनगुनाते रहो

दिन आये और दिन जाते रहे...
मैं गुनगुनाती रही

रोज़मर्रा भी जब आसन नहीं
उसपर तुम, आये और जाते रहे...
मैं गुनगुनाती रही

सिसकियाँ सारी अनसुनी बीती
आंसूं भी आये और जाते रहे...
मैं गुनगुनाती रही

दबी सी हँसी, छोटी अटखेलियाँ
खुशियाँ चंद, आई और जाती रही...

मैं गुनगुनाती रही

 

ग़म आये और जाते रहे,

खुशियाँ आई और जाती रही,

संगीत ग़म का, संगीत ख़ुशी का

पल पल, न आया न गया,

मैं गुनगुनाती रही.

Here goes, to a man par excellence, story-teller extraordinaire... there is much I owe him and though I am bound to fall short of words sketching him, or even expressing gratitude, here is an attempt...
PS - For those of you who do not know, I am talking about my grandfather here, whom we all lovingly call Pappaji!


                                     

चैन से ली हुई वो करवटों की कहानी,

सुने कोई, वो लुंगी में पड़ी सिलवटों की ज़बानी...

कहती है कथा उस कल्पशील की,

सब्जी वो लड्डू  से बनी...

जिसके शब्दों से रंजित थी कहानियां,

वो चित्रों और रंगों से सनी...

 अलंकृत कथानक करते वो

कोनों से पत्ते मुड़े हुए...

वो सीख अधूरी बाज़ी से,

और हुनुर वो उससे जुड़े हुए...

यादों और विद्या के वो अनंत सागर,

मेरे पप्पाजी हैं...

किस्से कहानियों का  छलकता गागर,

मेरे पप्पाजी हैं...

You followed this Bunny with a fluffy white tail

Wearing your prettiest Frocky,

Looking for the Wonderland, in a Rabbit Hole,

And ended up against the Jabberwocky...

For in the Wonderland, you'll always find,

Hatters and Creatures and Demons extraordinaire,

Looking to never let escape,

A Maiden, such as you, so Fair...

And while this Wonderland is yours,

To keep and mend and Make and Unmake,

Realise, it is a Dreamy Reality -

The Wonderland - always for your Keepsake...

May you like Alice, find your Wonderland!

May you like Alice, find it Surreal!

May you like Alice, rid your own Demons!

Fogged

For I dipped my head in water,

To gain the bubbling quiet...

Fogged

For I exhaled it myself,

Billowed from my pout...

Fogged

For I walked-in in cold,

And out to the heat...

Fogged

For my own breath

For my own wrath...

Fogged

For the lush greens around

And the wee hours...

And I left my glasses on...

It helps to obscure my vision

And makes it hazy to see...

Keeps me grounded

Closer to Me...

तस्सवुर

बुनता हूँ सपने, खुली आँखों के साथ...
ख्यालों की ऊन, और दिमाग - जैसे सलाई और हाथ!

रंगता हूँ चित्र, आसमान के कैनवास पर,
रंगों के छीटे, दृष्टि में भर-भर!

भीगा वो सपना, आँखें जो हुई नम,
सिकूडी वो ऊन और सलाई बेदम!

जल गया वो चित्र, कारण, सूरज का तेज,
राख हुआ कैनवास, और अँधा रंगरेज़!
